Lighting TDs are responsible for the final 3D scene assembly, lighting and rendering of elements required to complete visual effects shots for high-end photo-realistic VFX films, TV and commercials.


  • CG scene assembly
  • Lighting shots as briefed by the Supervisor
  • Creating efficient rendering setups in order to optimise render farm usage
  • Create simple tools to improve workflows
  • Creating lighting setups and/or working with current setups
  • Develop new lighting techniques and workflows.
  • Meet delivery deadlines under production constraints
  • Work closely with Supervisors to develop tools and workflows associated with lighting and look development


  • Excellent Maya/Katana skills and solid understanding of rendering with Arnold
  • A strong knowledge of lighting techniques in a visual effects environment
  • A thorough understanding of the visual effects pipeline
  • Basic knowledge of Compositing in Nuke
  • A good understanding of color-space
  • Basic knowledge of physically plausible shading techniques
  • Excellent organisation, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Superb problem-solving skills and ability to take the initiative and offer ideas and suggestions
  • Ability to work with competency and enthusiasm with minimal supervision
  • Excellent listening and communication skills, and the ability to receive direction and criticism
  • Excellent presentation/communication skills in dailies/reviews by clearly and briefly outlining what has been accomplished and what next should be addressed in the shot
  • Demonstrates an excellent aesthetic eye, anticipating potential problems
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively


  • Life drawing or organic modeling
  • Knowledge of Mari, Substance, Mudbox and/or Zbrush
  • Knowledge of modelling and texturing
  • Knowledge and experience in Compositing and Nuke 
  • Knowledge and experience in other render packages
  • Experience working with effects elements and volume rendering
  • Basic knowledge of Python and/or Mel scripting
